Well, it has been a while since I last sat down to post a blog. I have been pretty busy lately due to having a full time career that I do not want to detract from in this journey, trying to keep up with (and attract new orders for) this business, keeping up with the house and land, and making sure to carve out time for my wife and our cute grandchildren. It is a fine line to walk at times.
Which brings me to the costs of doing a business, at least from my perspective.
Free time is less! I now rarely have a day where I just sit and do nothing. All year I have talked about how I am going to take one day on a weekend and sit at the river with a pole in the water. That has yet to happen. Even now, as I'm typing this, I'm telling myself it's gonna happen! (Probably not)
The numerous steps you have to take to start a business are sometimes daunting. I am still in process of finishing out the final stages of mine. Naively I thought all I had to do was open a business account and tell everyone I am now a business then rake in the money.
Ohhh, the innocence of youth...
The first thing I had to do was get the tools and materials necessary to perform the required tasks for my choice of business. Then I had to learn how to use them. I had to do a lot of reading and watching videos, followed by emulating the things I have learned.
Once I decided it was the business for me, I had to decide on a name. It can't be just any name, I had to make sure to pick one I would be happy with and sounded professional.
It's a month long process in this state to establish a business name so you don't want to take it lightly.
Next on my list was a website. I was jumping right into the ocean with both eyes closed on this one... I started on the process and had paid my monthly fees for the next year when I found out I had to have a business account in order to sell in my online store.
Once you have your business name, you must open a business account to handle your funds.
Both purchasing and sales. Not to mention keeping track of your taxes. My bank almost acted like I wasn't going to be able to get a business account because I had to have a form, from the State, telling the bank I was in good standing. (Translation: I have to give the State more money). She went ahead and opened the account for me, despite not having this form, stating that they might contact me in the future and shut my account down. WOW!!!
4 months later and I've not heard anything yet. She did tell me the bank has an account where I can process payments from my website directly through the bank and into my account...how convenient!! I signed up but they told me I didn't qualify for this account (No explanation was given). Interesting...
Well now I can start my online store/website!! FINALLY! Now the fun started. That is a blog for another day. If you are looking to start a website, you may want to read that one.
Goodbye for now, faithful fans! Time to make some more product for the Christmas Season.
